Silhouette #1: Slouchy Jeans
These are the jeans you never knew you needed. After mom jeans fad, slouchy jeans seems to be a new contender to its long-held place. Maybe you’re not into it yet, or maybe even skeptical about it being the new it jeans. That may be the case, but give an ear to the fashion industry; they’re pushing it with these jeans, most obviously Zara and Mango, but so far, it’s not a major trend on the streets yet. If you’d like to be the seniors in this slouchy jeans campaign, feel free to snag yours up from these two stores, or similar ones, and switch out your regular jeans for this 2020 update.
Here’s a tip: wear it with chunky dad shoes to channel your inner grunge or hip hop vibe, or wear it with slim or skinny ballet flats to get in touch with the feminine side of yourself. I mean, obviously everyone knows the types of shoes you wear tell your style story immediately. So, what do these slouchy jeans have to do with anything? One answer: it actually works like a regular pair of jeans, but with low-key drama
Silhouette #2: Wide-leg Trousers
Talking about drama, high-waisted, wide-leg trousers have always been centre-stage. It gives the illusion of a slim waistline simply by contrasting it against the bulkier section of the hips, and also gives the illusion of height from the lengthy, languid and breezy feel of the pant legs. All in all, it is the go-to pants if you wanna feel like you’re in the era of disco fever again.
Silhouette #3: Voluminous Tops
While we’ve got the classic 70’s drama up above with the wide-leg trousers, someone among in the fashion industry intends to keep the puff-sleeved blouse within our midst. And in their attempt to continue to keep it in this moment, they’ve started experimenting with it and evolving it to fit the times. Zara has come up with this contemporary grunge Milk Maid blouse. It’s a mad twist for sure, all that denim toughness moulded into a cloud-like shape.
Denim, to me, is one of the hardest materials to give a new look or a new silhouette. This is especially true if we’re talking about street wear or wearable fashion. (If it’s a high end avant garde brands like Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garcons, they will obviously be at the forefront of experimental fashion and trying new shapes for humankind, not just to wear but also to think about.) With this new form of denim on the block, it may take some time for the crowd to get onboard with this idea, but the fashion enthusiasts and those who love to experiment with their clothes will no doubt start experimenting with this already.
