There are just so many bags in this world that could satisfy your craving for bags. And yet you can’t get enough of it. You’re not alone, because I’m suffering from some kind of fashion bag depression right this moment too as I write this. So I’ve gathered a list of less conventional yet style-able bags from fashion’s den for the ones who’s suffering a bag withdrawal. Sometimes, all you have to do is dig up the past and re-wear what has been worn before.
The High End Plastic Bag
This “luxury plastic bag” brings back a lot of memories from the past few years in fashion. The peak for me was when Dolce & Gabbana released its Roseto Fall/Winter 2018-19 collection, the models all decked beautifully in gold and roses. They aren’t at some ballroom or party posing for the camera, though. They were in the supermarket doing grocery shopping like a normal person would to keep themselves alive. If you fancy this lifestyle, keep one of these silk or satin “plastic” bags folded up in your handbag and whip them out when you head to the supermarket. Plus, it’s completely reusable. Something for the likes of being sustainable in the face of the plastic pandemic.
The Luxury Rubber Bag
While we tackle the plastic issue that’s plaguing the world, we unfortunately still do have bags made out of plastics and their counterparts. For example, the bags made out of jelly or rubber like the one below. What’s worse is that they are so attractive to the eyes, making even the most sustainable practitioner question their motives. Thoughts of ditching the whole sustainable lifestyle start to circulate in their minds. But luckily enough, and quite ironically painful too, is that this particular jelly bag is a Chanel bag (plastic or not), and it costs an arm and a leg to own it. So, to all of you who are trying to live sustainably and who are also financially smart, I’m guessing you won’t have too much of a problem in this department, right? Because you made a promise to yourself to live sustainably…
The Animal Back(pack)
The bandwagon that pulls the fashionistas into the realm of jelly bags also pulls them to the land of animal furs. In this day and age, major brands have mostly caught up with animal rights issues and environmental issues. That said, finding animal furs on luxury pieces brings suspicion as to whether that brand is aware of the social issue around animal rights or not. And then you find out that these animal furs are actually synthetic. Your heart is at peace again, knowing that no animal was hurt during the process. It also means that you can purchase that bag, own it, and wear it without being judged for wearing literal animal skin on your back and wanting to become an animal yourself.
The Bucket Bag (Remains In Fashion)
No matter which direction fashion is being pulled into, the bucket bag will remain a staple in at least one collection within a season. Only with a twist for an update. Even more so, the straps of bucket bags have widened over the years, ever since the vertical Celine Sangle bag that, I suspect, initiated the wide strap trend.
A possible reason for its ability to remain relevant through the decades of fashion evolution is because of its functionality. It has a wide and spacious body, allowing the user to store more necessities than needed, and it has a wide, open mouth, allowing the user to dig through the bag’s contents without thinking of needing a torchlight to find that long lost nail clipper haphazardly thrown into it long ago.
On top of that, this “bucket”-shaped bag truly calls attention to itself because of its seldom seen shape, seldom seen in the sense that you wouldn’t normally see this on the street because a normal citizen wouldn’t find the need to use an oddly shaped bag on a daily basis. One could do this, but normally it isn’t the case.
The Mesh Bag for the Girls with Nothing to Hide
These are not your average girls. They are daring, opinionated, and they live to challenge their surroundings. And challenge their surroundings they must, by none other than revealing every card on their hand through these mesh bags and yet still remain mysterious to the masses.
It’s also another clever way to display those personal belongings that are worth showing off; let me list them down for you: a tube of Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser with added SPF 30, a gilded bodied lipstick and white-as-snow blusher container from Ladurée, that secret tube of an even more secret concoction of an aroma so beautifully bottled up (actually, it’s the Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm from Aesop), a sleek maroon Prada wallet, a stylish and over-fanciful ballpoint pen from Kate Spade, and that sought-after iPhone 11 Pro in gold and its three-eyed face, just to name a few.
If you have anything worth putting it in the face of the world to mark your rung on some strange and primitive societal ladder, go ahead and do it. Sometimes, watchers too want something interesting to look at, which could be your mesh bag of luxurious belongings. Just one way to put it, yeah?
Also, pair the mesh bag with the same striking nail colour. This combo is the talk of the town, the fashion must-do.
Also, there’s just one more bag that I absolutely adore that’s not here. Check out my Shrimp’s Rosa Bag in this post and find out how I style it.
