It was in the middle of the pandemic that Rodarte posted two particularly gushing images from their Fall/Winter 2019 runway show, shot by Mimi Haddon. In it featured a candid Awar Mou dressed in a layers of bright pink satin ruffles and lace with imprints of glittery hearts. In another is a bottom-half shot of Awar Mou’s Rodarte look and that of another model dressed in similar layers of clothing, except there was no satin and the hearts were exchanged for bows. The moment I set my eyes on these two images, I was completely engulfed in both its beauty and ridiculousness.

I am very aware that there will be people who will hate on these dresses because of how frivolous and seemingly carefree these dresses look, but it is also for the same reason I am attracted to it. That is, apart from the fact that my favourite colour is pink, and that these two images captured that childhood princess vibe I still occasionally fantasise about on my less stressed days. Let’s not forget about the fact that these models are wearing pink stockings! I’ve always wanted the perfect pink stockings for aesthetic and silly reasons, and Rodarte has thence opened up my eyes to the world of creating looks with such “difficult to wear” stockings.

Although these looks were released in a fall/winter collection, I can’t help wanting to drag it into spring/summer. That being said, I’m bound to think of these looks as being versatile enough that they can be worn in pretty much all seasons, of course with the right amount of layering (for winter) and de-layering (for summer).

Here are two groups of outfits I’ve created that I oscillate between daily, featuring that same childhood princess vibe the Rodarte dresses exude. Click on the images to shop!
