There are certain fashion and style trends that have more or less made their marks in Western countries, that is, the USA and the UK, that have yet to be recognised in this small town called Singapore. What I am referring to specifically is the beaded pearl bag. From what I’ve gathered with the limited access and experience I have in the Western fashion and style environment, I would guess that pretty much most trend-conscious fashion/style watchers know that this pearl trend exists. YouTubers like Ashley (@best.dressed) and UK brands like Shrimps has made the beaded pearl bag popular and well-known enough. And yet I see no sign of pearl bags on the streets of my home island.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, pearls and sequins can be easily banded together due to their beaded nature. If anything, Teresa (@teeteeheehee) has been making accessories with beads and sequins, which I think is effort on her part. And there was once too when I saw a $40 pearl beaded bag at Forever 21 and almost brought it to the counter to get it paid and owned. Thank God I didn’t do it. I was low on (fashion) funds that month, ha-ha.

At this point of the year, Shrimps is still actively bringing out new designs for beaded pearl bags, and I am eternally thankful for that. For some reason, I continue to admire and covet so crazy silently those Shrimps pearl bags. But things just got better from there: Shrimps released the Rosa Bag—and I could’ve sworn I almost straight-out dropped S$825 to get it shipped and mailed to my doorstep ASAP.

I’ve been thinking about this bag for almost a month now, and I continue to fantasize wearing it with my favourite pieces of clothing, plus also coming up with (hopeless) budgeting plans and how I would save my money for the next three months just so I could finally own it. I’ve told my mother on two occasions about this bag, and she only shakes her head in that “There’s nothing I can do to stop you—you’re hopeless” because she doesn’t know and want to deal with my obsession over unnecessarily expensive things.

But despite the low possibility of me having the Rosa Bag, I go one step further to dream up outfits for when I finally have the bag in the palms of my hands.
